What Is Happening to Chicago Teens?
Story by Addie Duncan
On the weekend of 17th of August around 16 teens were shot in Chicago and, in some of their cases, it was fatal. Many of the teens were shot in public places such as parks, walking on the sidewalk, and also in their cars at stop lights.
Many parents are mourning their children this week. One of the mothers said that her son was only 14 years old, and had been shot in the head and also the chest on the sidewalk a few houses down from his grandmother's house. His family stated that he was sweet, and caring. He never got in trouble and that he was a straight-A student, who was ready for his first day of high school. A mother of a 17-year-old female stated that her daughter was ready to start her senior year when she and another boy were shot at a park.
Teens aren't the only ones getting shot in Chicago, in total there have been about 40 shootings which include both teens and adults. A young man was at a stop light when an SUV pulled up and started shooting him. This happened around 3:00 a.m. this past weekend. Shooting rates have been increasing tremendously.
